How much space/bandwidth could we reasonably use on your web server? We already have around 10 GB on Dropbox and there are other files that we're not sharing entirely due to space concerns.
I have an unlimited plan on a shared server so it realistically is as big as we need it to be.
Are you sure it's really unlimited? Most shared hosts offer "unlimited" storage and bandwidth, but force you to upgrade to a large dedicated plan if you use more than they expect.
This is true. Even though this should work for any immediate demands, I think the obvious long term solution is going to be paying for some cloud space... I'll look in to this when I get a free minute and let you know what the most feasible options look like.
If you have a few places in mind we could ask for sponsorship. There is virtually no marginal cost in adding someone with our needs, so it's virtually free publicity.
In the mean time, you can go to http://www.dropbox.com/edu and login. If you confirm a .edu e-mail address, they will retroactively double the referral award space (250MB --> 500MB). Doing this will get us up to 16GB but I'll see if there is anything else we can get anyway.
