Over email, it was mentioned that the ISTP conventions are just that: conventions, and so this issue is not significant. I've noticed that some SPASE records contain DISPLAY_TYPE, so this issue may be worth revisiting.
I suggest that the ISTP convention document be modified to indicate the default used by CDAWlib software when this attribute is missing.
