I like this. Maybe change the color (yellow?) so they stand out a bit more. Maybe like post-it notes?
Adding to this, I just added the two accidents to the timeline but then noticed that the timeline only goes until 2010. Do we want to include the Fukushima accident in 2011? Its in there now and would require extending the timeline a bit. Thoughts?
Yeah, we could extend the timeline to 2011. We might want to have another csv of only accidents. They could have latitude, longitude, and something like yield but estimated. On the timeline they could be diamonds or yellow (our color of interest?) part of a bar for that year. There are a few ways we could include them. Maybe just hovering over their textbox could make it show in the map.
Also, yeah we could make the treaty boxes yellow inside too like post-it notes. Should the help button be changed?
I'm not sure how its done now (the accident data), but another CSV sounds good for that. When we calculate the range for the timeline simply include the max/min of the detonation data and the accident data. That way 2011 can be included. I think it'll still be cut off (like it is now ish). I'm not sure how to fix that (we could make the SVG wider).
I'm not sure what you mean by diamonds.
A diamond or shape like from here? http://bl.ocks.org/mbostock/4349509 Kind of like your idea about flags which by the way would have been nice, being that they are small and wouldn't get cut off.
I'm not sure how well diamonds would fit in the main timeline. Flags would be good.
One thought is that we could have little "flags" and have them show more information on mouseover. I'm not sure if thats where the flag idea came from or what, but it sounds like a good one to me (more info!).
This is talking about the Chernobyl disaster and the Fukushima disaster. Not the other political events.
Did we want to change the way events are shown?
How do we want to represent significant events on the timeline?
In reference to #7, there's not too much space open in the timeline.
I was thinking there could be a little yellow band/flag that sits above/below the timeline. On mouse over it could have a tooltip detailing what event it was and maybe link to Wikipedia.
