First, thanks for writing this awesome crate.

But it looks like the author is busy. The last commit was about seven years ago. And some PRs hanging for years.

I made some improvements based on this project.

I think the best way is to link to unescaper. You can keep the unescape-rs. For the crates.io I think you could also update it directly; link to unescaper.

If you don’t have too much time. You could transfer the unescape-rs to me and invite me as the owner of it https://crates.io/users/AurevoirXavier. But yes, I think the linking-way is much easier.
