Fix format bugs #81

Minor fix to address #80 (various bugs depending on format of input dataLong & dataEvent).

This resolves all the cases documented there, though there may be other cases yet to be identified. Wasn't sure if these were worth adding to the unit test. LMK if you think that would be advised.
