In my opinion, they should be quite short, so they can be read quickly.
Preferably, the options are labeled to be easy-to-understand, so that tooltips are not required in most instances. Important information should be visible to the user at all time, like when an option is critical to set.

As a result of #2907, I would like to suggest an addition which would allow for avoiding any similar misunderstandings as I had. It is also worth noting that Tooltips have already been requested - #379 - so it might be worth reconsidering.
Describe the solution you'd like
If you hover a mouse cursor over a field/option it displays more details about it. Lots of info from FAQ/Help Topics could be moved directly into the application, including detailed explanations of SBIE Messages (errors).
