Hi, i should be able to add a sub collection to a parent collection that also has works - correct? I am pretty sure i have done this before but cant get it to work currently... I am trying to add https://dl.atla.com/collections/st-paul-s-episcopal-church to this parent collection https://dl.atla.com/collections/episcopal-diocese-of-pennsylvania-archives

Original Slack thread: https://notch8.slack.com/archives/CA6PAFA1K/p1565103444119400

This is for the CLIR grant project. It has many levels.

  1. The main project collection is here: https://dl.atla.com/collections/philadelphia-congregations-early-records-project

  2. It has within it 13 collections:

    • 11 are institution collections that have within them only items/works
    • 2 are institutions that have other institutions inside them and those institutions have items/works in their collections.
  3. What is not working is that this 1 collection (https://dl.atla.com/collections/episcopal-diocese-of-pennsylvania-archives) that is a child of the main project collection (in number 1 above) needs to have both items/works inside it AND an institution collection (https://dl.atla.com/collections/st-peter-s-episcopal-church-philadelphia-pa)

Attempting to assign the target Child to the target Parent (from Parent dashboard show page) gives no indication that it has succeeded or failed, but upon page inspection you can find that the request throws an error. Reloading the page confirms this as the target Child is not a Subcollection of the target Parent.

I'm blocked. I still can’t reproduce this locally. I created all the Collections and assigned their Works before assigning them to each other and everything succeeded.

We believe this only affects collections that go beyond two levels. @ckarpinski Will add to this what those levels are and what they should be.

@orangewolf and @crisr15 Finally focused on this - this is still an issue. This collection has items harvested directly into it https://dl.atla.com/collections/episcopal-diocese-of-pennsylvania-archives AND ideally we want to add this collection as a child to it as well https://dl.atla.com/collections/st-peter-s-episcopal-church-philadelphia-pa

It will not do this as of checking again right now

@orangewolf @bkiahstroud - if you can add any other context or info you may have about this, please do

  1. go to the edit screen for the collection Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania Archiveshttps://dl.atla.com/dashboard/collections/episcopal-diocese-of-pennsylvania-archives?locale=en
  2. Click add sub collection and choose the collection St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Philadelphia, PA
  3. Click the Add the subcollection button and wait, then close the box and refresh that page

Nothing changes. Those are the steps that would normally add a sub collection. There are not messages or anything to tell you what has happened.
