I am interested - count me in!
Andy you'd be perfect for this project. To be clear, it's not a paying job -- it's a user bootstrap. It'll be presented as a gift to Chris and Mary (she's been the producer of his show as long as I've known them, about 15 years now).
I want to keep it simple, so here's what's needed:
A WordPress blog with comments turned on.
Every time there's a new show, start a page, with the title and description from their site or RSS feed. A link to the audio perhaps.
Then you send a link to the new page to, let's say to start, me and Mary. We have to find someone on their end to receive the link. The idea is that then they'd link to it from the main site, and perhaps even mention it on the show. Chris loves getting comments, so it's likely, if it's good, and they trust it, they will promote it.
Moderate comments. Removing any personal, off-topic, promotional, spam, etc. The comment must be about the show they are commenting on.
For now the domain should be something from scripting.com, since I have no ability to add something to radioopensource.org. Eventually it would be nice to get a domain like discuss.radioopensource.org, and also to pass it off to whoever updates their site. Someone is doing it, I just don't know who. Also they must have someone managing the domain, again at this time I don't know who that is.
To Chris and Mary, this would seem like a lot of work, but for you and I, we know this is just a small bit of work to start and every week. But you can handle it Andy, so as far as I'm concerned you're the guy for the job.
BTW, Thursday is their show day, so I wouldn't expect to hear anything from them at least until Friday, and maybe a bit of time after that. It may take a few weeks to get this show on the road. But I have the ability to get the word out immediately, which I will do once it's set up.
For the initial domain, how about rdiscuss.scripting.com?
Dave, it sounds great! The domain is fine, I am assuming you want me to set up and host the WordPress site, is that correct? If yes, I can set up a test site at lunch time (noon Pacific time), then coordinate on setting up the domain. Let me know....
Also, to give you an idea of what we're replicating.

The test site is up at https://andysylvester.com/rdiscuss/
The theme is "Twenty Twenty One" (default), let me know if you have a theme in mind.
Let me know if you want to coordinate domain stuff here on this issue or some other method, thanks.
It's good that there's a site, but it should not say it's radio discuss. that's not what it's for.
Also it would be a good idea to put up a page for last week's show, let's go over that.
To get an idea, look at the archive.org site I posted a link to.
I modified the initial post to have text from last week's episode, also changed to a two-column theme following the archive.org site. WordPress has a site name and a tag line setting, let me know what you would like there.
Andy, that's very nice. You got the idea. :-)
Now, when the next episode comes out today, do the same thing.
And add some links in the sidebar.
Link back to radioopensource.org with "Main Site"
Link to the podcast feed.
Link to the discuss feed.
And next up, let's do the domain mapping. Is this running on a server whose domain you control? Can you allocate a TLD for me to create a CNAME for?
I have added links to the sidebar per your comment. I control the domain (andysylvester.com), and have created a subdomain for the site (rdiscuss.andysylvester.com). I have not updated the settings in WordPress to point to this yet, I would prefer to wait on that until you create your CNAME record. Let me know when your CNAME is complete.
I've set up http://rdiscuss.scripting.com/ to point at rdiscuss.andysylvester.com.
Would it be possible to have a voice chat about the site now? It'll go a lot faster that way..
Just a few things to talk about...
Yes, will send a DM in a minute.
The following updates are complete:
Let me know what you think!
For the record, a voicemail I sent to the people at Radio Open Source and to Andy.
http://scripting.com/2021/03/01/voicemailReRadioOpenSource.m4a
I just created a new account, signed on, and entered a comment. It seems to work. ;-)
The new theme is good, meets all the criteria we set out.
The tagline still says it's a community site, here's a better tagline: The discussion site for the Radio Open Source podcast.
After I registered, it took me to a configuration page. Was this because I am an admin? Will regular users go to that page? I hope not. It's another reason for them not to bother commenting.
I think we're in good shape now for the next episode. When it comes out, I'll start the promoting I talked about in the voicemail.
I just thought of something else. As I describe in the voicemail, we're going to need concise and brutal comment guidelines. Could you put this in a page linked to from the sidebar, under Comment Guidelines.
Any posts that violate these rules will be deleted. If you do it a second or third time, your account will be blocked.
These rules are based on decades of experience moderating online discussions. Talk briefly about the ideas in the podcast episode and all is good. :-)
Latest updates:
I will set up another user ID to test commenting to see how that looks as a user. You were not an admin at the time you posted (but I have changed your role from user to administrator since then).
I listened to the voicemail above, I think the above changes cover the items there, will wait for further feedback.
Andy a few comments.
This box at the top of the page shouldn't be here.
The page loads slowly from here. It feels like the DNS redirect is the source of the slowness.
There's a new episode.
Oy. I just discovered they have a discussion section on their website.
https://radioopensource.org/plague-year-two/#comments
That's where comments go for the current episode.
I apologize for not looking more carefully.
I posted a comment there to see if anyone would reply.
Also, if you scroll to the bottom of the excellent Billie Holiday episode, no comments.
Created a post for this week's episode.
The site takes about 4 seconds to load for me, is your load time longer?
I think the box you are seeing at the top of the page is the quick post entry box. This is a feature of this theme, but I will look into if this can be turned off. If you are not logged into the site, you will not see the box.
The Billie Holliday episode actually has 7 comments (https://radioopensource.org/billie-holiday-at-100/) , your link is to another episode (which indeed does not have any comments).
Andy, I'd say don't worry about the box or the loading time. The situation is more complex than I thought, and I still haven't heard back from them. All factors that say let's pause this and think, learn and listen some more.
Created a new post for this week's episode, FYI.
If you're a regular listener to Radio Open Source, and would like to help boot up a nice community around this foundational podcast, please send me an email or leave a comment here.
