Test version of Electric Drummer #184

Open scripting opened 1 year ago

scripting commented 1 year ago

Along with all the upheaving with a new identity system comes a new version of Electric Drummer, which is now in sync with the web Drummer.

As with previous versions that allowed you to log in to Twitter, this version allows you to log in with your email address.

The result is the same, you can create public files, and when you change them, copies are uploaded to drummer.land, where they can be opened by other Drummer users and will update as Instant Outlines. This all appears to work. Amazingly. ;-)

You can download the new version from the Electric Drummer docs page.

Please let us know how it goes.

I updated the E/D docs to reflect the changes.

Also if you're using the new version of Electric Drummer, please let us know how it's going. It's an important part of the process. Thanks.

@defjaf -- yes all that is to be expected. i didn't get to the bottom of all that stuff, i have so much to deal with in other projects, i just wanted to get the basic functionality working. might be able to come back to it later.

no plans at this time for new version for Apple silicon. not even sure what's involved. possibly just a newer version of electron?

Sorry for missing this thread. Might be worth a tiny bit of documentation just to warn users what to expect (and to point them to this new comment/query issue rather than the current "special page"?)

Indeed, I think it's "just" that: https://www.electronjs.org/blog/apple-silicon

But I don't know how difficult that is in practice, especially if you only have an Intel machine. And it's annoying that it means having to give users two different versions to download (fully compiled apps can be deployed as Universal binaries which run natively on all architectures).

Good morning, Dave!

I did not expect that I will ever have to ask about such a trouble. Now, I just hope that someone will be able to give me at least an explanation. Even better, if s/he will be able to offer a solution.

What I did? I downloaded the latest version of Electric Drummer. I saved the zip-file in folder where I store all the downloaded application files in dmg or zip format.

When I tried to open it I got a warning message from the Avast security application: see the attached screenshot – 1.

Afterwards I tried to open the older versions of Electric Drummer (in this same folder I have 9 files with the different versions, the oldest one was downloaded on September 15th, 2021): always the same result – warning from Avast.

Any other application in the same folder could be opened (= expanded from the zip) without any trouble.

What did I expect? It was supposed that the zip-file will expand – and I will put the application into the Application folder: replacing the older version of Electric Drummer with the newest one.

What happened? I got the warning from the Avast secutiry application. And the files were quarantined because they supposedly contain a malicious code.

The main surprise? I tried to open the already installed version of Electric Drummer which is saved in the Application folder, was used several times – and last modified (according to the Finder information) on January 6th, 2022. But I could not open it: the same message from Avast appeared: see the second screenshot – 2. Now this application is also quarantined (= can not be opened anymore because it does not exist for Finder).

What should I do – or can to resolve this trouble?

Thank you for any advice in advance!

Kind regards,

to everyone -- please ignore the part where he addresses his question to me. i have no experience with Avast. I'm 99.999 percent sure this is bullshit, something like they flag all electron apps because it's easier for them, or it's a corporate policy for where this guy works. it's a waste of our time, when the problem always turns out to be with the other software. but if anyone here is aware of any problems with Avast and E/D please chime in.

First, I am not working for any corporation – I am working at home as a private person.

Second, the main question is: is PUP-gen [PUP] really a malicious code or not.

Third, I kindly sent a personal mail and was asked to submit it here (I apologise that I did this first at the wrong place – I have almost no experience how to use this place). The response is for me somewhat wild and not pretty.

Fourth, I can work with all other files and applications on my computer – except with any files relaed to Electric Drummer (at least as of yesterday – I could use Electric Drummer several months ago).

Perhaps this helps to understand the circumstances.

@Dice-right This is certainly a false positive of Avast marking Electron v7.1.10 and any app built with it as infected. We had a similar situation with Intego VirusBarrier falsely marking E/D as infected last August.

Good morning!

Thank you for your kind and helpful explanation, Scott Hanson!
