Just leaving this here in case it's useful to integrate into the package:

I'm happy to help work on putting this into nimbleDistance but don't have time right now, so posting here means at least someone might see it who needs it!

Thanks Dave, I haven't made much further progress, but getting some working examples/vignettes into the package is a high priority, so this wil be very handy. Cheers, MS.
