Steps to Reproduce

It happen during the normal usage of second life it's constant not a drop of FPS on a certain sim . It is half of the fps not a loss during the game. You login with newer versions of viewer and have half the fps the vewer 5_0_6_326593 would give you.I have also tested SL without other programs on pc using just SL: result is the same. The bug is due to viewer not to hardware. You may try the older viewer in test mode or do the same test in open grid and see that even now your hardware by it would give you a doubled FPS compared to last three second life viewer

Actual Behavior

The viewer Second_Life_5_0_6_326593 and its previous versions are the only ones that works nicely, after it all the newer versions are giving half FPS. All the newer versions included the latest viever ( Second_Life_5_1_0_511732 ) are affected by a bad behaviour giving half FPS. I tried them different graphic cards/ pc and the result is still the same. The video cards I tested sl with are nvidia 970 gtx and with nvidia 1060 GTX I belive there is a wrong optimization in the latest 3 versions of viewers. I always use the same Second life preferences settings now as by then. I have tried different graphic drivers and installed them with cleaning properly tracks of older one each time. Please check this bug and optimize newer versions of SL viewer

Expected Behavior

To keep having the same average of FPS as it was till last June/July with the second life viewer Second_Life_5_0_6_326593

Hi Astrid,

Interesting report details. You seem to have found a method that allows you to enable Advanced Lighting Model (ALM) while at the lowest render quality. This is not intended to be allowed by default.

ALM is very taxing on FPS and given the atypical settings you may actually be decreasing your FPS this way.

Will you please try moving your Quality & Speed slider to the Low/Mid position from Me > Preferences > Graphics. Please change nothing else in advanced settings after you have done this.

Now when you go about your normal Second Life activities is your FPS still impacted?

Lastly do you recall any particular feature or change in 5_0_6_326593 that made you remember it so well as being the 'better' version?

Thanks!
