[BUG-226917] EEP Environment, New Sky should default to midday and not 6pm #5359

How would you like the feature to work?

I would like to be able to right click settings and choose "new sky" and have it create a midday sky and not an apparent 6pm sky. I was shocked when I selected "new sky" and didn't end up with midday.

Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?

It would benefit the community because nobody wants to wander around with it being 6pm all the time, but I know many people who do like to wander around with it being midday all the time. I shouldn't have to hunt a midday sky in the library to copy and modify. New sky at 6pm, really?

Hi Distraida.

1) The New Sky looks more like 1:30 PM to me, so I'm wondering if you're seeing a bug I don't see. When you open a New Sky does the sun position (Yellow dot) look like the attached "New Sky.png"?

2) I notice that the environment is a bit dark because the Ambient Color in the Atmosphere & Lighting tab is nearly black. Did it feel like 6pm because of the overall darkness of the scene?

When I applied te sky to my parcel, the Environment tab said apparent time of day was 6PM. That's how  know it is 6 PM.

Yes, the sun position on the new sky looks like the picture you posted.

I see something odd going on now. With the fixed sky set to "New Sky", as you change the Day Length and Day Offset sliders, the apparent time of day text changes, but the sky doesn't, because it is set to fixed sky "New Sky". I can get it to say apparent time of day is 11:00 pm, with the daylight sky. It must have been 6PM "real life" time when I applied it to my parcel.

On another note, I could not see what I was typing in my Jira comment until I submitted it then chose to edit it. No text was showing as typed as I was typing.

I have attached a picture SL EEP Viewer Time of Day.png

The "Apparent time of day" doesn't tell you where the sun position is oe should be. The Apparent Time of Day is an informational field. It examines the day length and day offset and the current time in SLT and translates that into a percentage representing what the current position within the day cycle would be.
