I have the same problem, the game doesn't crash with just REI but when JEI Plugin Compatibility gets added the bug occurs.

Would love to see a fix, The controllable mod wants a higher (jei)version then what REI creates.

Can you try with the latest REI Plugin Compat? I believe this is fixed.

It appears to still be happening. At least on the terrafirmagreg modpack, same menu crash and everything. I don't know why but im guessing something updated recently
