I'm a backend developer, not a 3D artist, I don't know what most people prefer. So, questions:
For importing meshes, is it better to:
Consistently import a top-level Empty, with one-or-more meshes as children?
If there's only a single mesh, just import the mesh at the top level? (Inconsistent but nicer to use perhaps?)
If there are multiple meshes, have the main mesh at the top level and others as children? (As opposed to an Empty)?
For Blender UI, is a tools panel in the 3D view the best place for a model browser?
Maybe the search as its own window type?
Does it make sense to have the Search panel and the Product Information panel both visible at the same time in the same place?
Maybe the Search should be its own window, but Info should remain as a tool in the 3D window?
(If artists do prefer to have model browsers as their own window type, how does one actually do that? ^^)
