the package button on the window doesn't do anything and when I choose package under "shoes" in the menu bar, the app crashes.

I have also encountered the same problem on Mac OS X 10.8.4.

Hi there, yes packaging is sadly pretty much broken. There are ways to package from the command line... but I don't really know them.

I've encountered this problem in OSX 10.9.2. It's supposed to wrap an application in a "something.app" right?

Please try Shoes 3.2.12 http://shoes.mvmanila.com . It should create 'something-osx.tgz' which contains 'something.app'
