Permissions problems when connecting to windows-based ftp servers via macfuse and macfusion #175

My apologies if this is the wrong forum for this matter, but it is driving
me crazy. I am trying to use macfusion and macfuse on my mac like I can use
southriver's webdrive on a pc. Macfuse with macfusion is the closest thing
I can find to webdrive, but there is a serious problem...
My workplace (electrochemistry lab) uses windows 2000 computers with
cerberus ftp servers. I can connect to any of them with cyberduck, or with
fireftp plugin for firefox with my mac with full read and write capability
(though for some reason I can not modify files on those work computers
using any mac ftp client whereas doing so with windows-based ftp clients
like webdrive is no problem), but when I try to even open the default
folder using a macfusion ftp connection (macfuse and curlftpfs I think it
uses) the folder will not open and I am told that I do not have
'permission'. This is crazy as it is no problem from any other software.

One note, this only happens when connecting to an ftp server on a pc at
work [maybe other pcs too, its just the ones at work I have access too].
When I connect to my 'atspace' account, there is no problem, when I connect
to my account on the university's novell server, there is no problem.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install cerberus ftp server (or probably any ftp server on a windows
2000 pc)
2. Set the permissions in cerberus so that a user must provide a username
and password, but that user has full read/write access (all permission
boxes checked) to the folders they are assigned (for my primary work
computer I have access to the entire 'c:' drive, so in macfusion ftp the
default folder I see after login is simply called 'c').
3. Try to connect...for me, I get a 'permissions' error :-(

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to be able to read/write/delete/modify the remote files just like
I can with webdrive on a pc (windows 2000/xp).
Instead I can't even open the default folder (which moments before and
after opened fine in cyberduck and fireftp in firefox).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I installed the latest compiled binary version available for download and
install as of today (May 8, ie I downloaded and installed macfuse and
macfusion today...I restarted after macfuse installed and followed all of
the macfusion directions). I am using OSX 10.4.9 on a macbook (intel).

Please provide any additional information below.
I have been searching and reading whatever I could on the web since I
installed macfuse/fussion and hit this problem 5 hours ago with no luck in
finding anything useful, just the occasional rude linux or mac user making
some comment about windows as an inferior ftp server, but nothing useful :-(

Please help

Please move this discussion to the macfuse-devel mailing list, unless this
turns out to be a bug in MacFUSE.

Here's my reply to your questions:

This MacFUSE issue-175 echoed/translated to MacFusion issue
<http://code.google.com/p/macfusion/issues/detail?id=71>

Highlight:
<http://code.google.com/p/macfusion/wiki/quick>

For as long as people omit to state version numbers and other information that
is essential for quick fixes, I'll
mark such issues in the MacFusion project area as fixed:

 * in the absence of version numbers, we can assume that use of
compatible versions of MacFUSE and MacFusion
   will resolve the user's issue

 * regarding MacFusion checking of the MacFUSE version, we have
MacFusion issue 69 (initially critical, awaiting review by Michael)
   <http://code.google.com/p/macfusion/issues/detail?id=69>

 * IF a subsequent statement of version numbers suggests that an
issue _does_ exist then we at MacFusion SHOULD re-open that issue.

(Note to self: I, too, should get into the habit of stating version numbers.
It's fine for me while I'm so closely
involved with the MacFusion wiki etc, but as time passes it may become
frustrating for other viewers of issues
to note the vagueness of some reports.)

Kind regards
Graham

OT, please Ignore the hyperlink from this comment and from the previous comment
to issue 69.

I realised that a hyphenated issue would automatically present as a hyperlink,
but other markup for issues is a
mystery to me. My apologies. My plea for an explanation of markup is expressed
at
<http://code.google.com/p/support/issues/detail?id=223>.

(Wiki markup I'm OK with; it's the issue markup that's a mystery.)

I don't have access to your type of FTP server, but defer_auth should take care
of this issue, otherwise curlftpfs
might have to be extended.
