Revert #294 and #284 #299

This commit reverts #294 and most of #284 except for the small fix when importing ebooks. There is also a small commit that adds back the change of the base image since that was worth keeping and didn't break anything (I expect).

Did work, both my dev and prod environment. I'll start using it, and release a beta in a few days. I'll make the branch for it today.

Also made a discussion for 1.0. If you have any more suggestions for any breaking changes, I would be happy to add them.
