The grid is not divided in visual bars it seems. Might make things more clear to work with.

The grid is divided by the number of steps per beat or bar depending on your settings in the properties field. Default is 1 step per beat. If you change it to 4 steps per bar (for 4/4) you will exactly get what you want.
