steamos when my first start after installation it works for 1 minute and then restarts ... after that when you start it just sits with a black screen, sometimes it flashes an icon mouse in center of screen ... I have a xfx video card series r7700......ye old steamo and stemos i have the same problems....

I also have the same problem but i have a AMD Hudson-D1 FCH it seams to be the open source graphics driver that is the problem because sometimes it will have the first or second frame of the start up video. also it has a problem with cant find the steam repository before the first start up and one it gets up for the first time it dose not start steam and cant because of a missing 32bit lib program. for exact specs on my PC. http://h205.65.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03249118-10%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&ac.admitted=1401681967579.876444892.492883150

I'm having the same trouble. The open source drivers work the first time but get switched over to the proprietary drivers the second time around and nothing works. I just get a flashing screen with a cursor in the middle. I even tried to strip out the proprietary drivers and install open source ones but now it doesn't work at all.

This is https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/163

Your SteamOS receives an update to the steamos-base-files package which removes my patch to use the open-source driver on pre-fglrx cards.

This is no longer a problem in the current version of Stephenson's Rocket.
