Okay, just installed the Unicode-Emoji smiley theme into Pidgin (on Windows 10 64bit) and in the particular chatroom I hang out in, in the chat window, it is changing the end of my username into a smiley-face, replacing the d and the : at the end with it.
Not sure what is going on here, but it is clearly being a little too aggressive about converting d: into an emote, even if there's not a space in front of that d: in the line.
The first screengrab (which doesn't mangle the name) is with Emoji for Pidgin by Jason Salaz enabled, the second (which resolves the thumbs-up emote, but mangles my name) is with Emoji One (2.2.7) by Niclas Hoyer enabled.
