NOTE: we don't have any SAL-NEWARK records in folio-test. Working with Darsi to see when we can get some...
If it's helpful to look at the old implementation: MHLDs were removed in https://github.com/sul-dlss/sul-requests/pull/1485/files. Item comments were removed in https://github.com/sul-dlss/sul-requests/pull/1458.
This ticket isn't actionable right now. We need more information from AUL for Tech & Public Services about the service. We've had this ticket hanging out because we were told the facility would be opening "soon". But each time I ask about it, there is no solid answer about when. (And it's been over a year now.)
We've just heard from Alexis Manheim that SAL-NEWARK records should be migrated to FOLIO [now done]. Darsi will add the mappings to: https://github.com/sul-dlss/folio_migration/blob/main/mapping_files/locations.tsv.
They want to reinstate paging as well. I'll work with circ folks on the circrules (r = allow paging), and we'll need to do some work on the Location details. Most locations in SAL-NEWARK will have PAGE-EA, PAGE-GR, or STACKS equivalents.
What is different is that we will need to recreate request form functionality specific to SAL-NEWARK. Most materials stored there are Newspaper bundles, in varying languages.
In the request form, we should show the item selector when we have item records w/volume or issue info.
To help manage records with incomplete or no real volume/issue cataloging, we should show a free-text input field with label = "Volumes/issues" for users to input the items they want to request. IF there is no item selector displaying, we should make the "Volumes/issues" field required (so that users must input something to submit the request.)
We did this pre-pandemic when SAL-NEWARK paging was still available. Here's an old screen grab of the input field:
