Possibility to meet in Ireland. Several Venues are in Natural History museums. Need local scientific contact to explore . Possibility of financial support by Meet in Ireland : http://www.meetinireland.com/Conference-Support/Financial-Support-Scheme Possible venues can be : Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Killarney or Galway for example. Could be a possibility for 2019

I have been approached by letitia.wade@failteireland.ie to host a TDWG in Ireland in 2019 or later. They want to apply when the call is out. They suggest to work together with the Dublin Botanical Garden and BGCI, notably https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Wyse_Jackson

Further offer is a so called FAM trip to Dublin to show the possible facilities for one person (free of charge), next date is 26th to 28th of September 2016, no obligations. More information here : http://www.meetinireland.com/Home.aspx

I think Ireland would be a great venue. Unfortunately, Peter is no longer at the Dublin Botanical Gardens as he is now (for about 5 years) Chuck's boss in Missouri :-) There is a great Natural History Museum in Dublin and Nigel Monaghan has been to several SPNHC meetings in the past and is a nice guy. Also, I believe Éamonn Ó Tuama is back in Ireland and may be a good person to engage...

I still think we have to be a bit cautious with just handing everything over to a tourism company to make our plans. We should have strong engagement from some of our own members on the ground in Ireland or at least stakeholders and colleagues who value what TDWG does...

Yes this is exactly what I told them, that it is a pre-requisit to have local scientists/IT staff and institutions involved. hence their question. However for the whole logistic around the events (ie see visit New Zealand) these groups of the Associations of International Associations, do a really great job and most of their input is for free and they also have sponsorship possibilities. They bring a certain added value. They also help even if you use a venue like a Botanical Garden or Museum/University, you do not have to go to an expensive Convention center. Visit Brussels from the same system is helping for the Ecotropical Conference that will be hosted next year at the University of Brussels and it works really good.

I’m sure Dr Wyse Jackson would help with making contacts at DBG if needed. Dr Matthew Jebb is the current Chairman.

Agreed, I am certainly taking advantage of Tourism Ottawa. All I meant was that we should engage our own people on the ground first, or even better, let them show interest first, as this helps with motivation and incentives, etc. This has been the case for Costa Rica, Canada, and now New Zealand.
