Erick Mata's Answer by email on July 21st, 2015:

Dear Patricia and Cynthia,

I am writing to reiterate our interest in hosting the annual TDWG meeting in Costa Rica, this time in 2016.

As I mentioned in previous emails, we have new political authorities at the vice-presidency level. The critical change for our purposes is at the Vice-presidency for Research and Extension. However, I had an informal chat with our new Vice-president for Research and Extension, who expressed her interest in going forward, at least as an expression of interest from ITCR. I am scheduling a meeting with her this week to present her the details of our previous bid and get a firm commitment budget-wise.

Meanwhile, I would like to know what your comments were vis a vis our previous proposal. I am aware of the challenge of moving people from their hotels to the facilities of ITCR on a daily basis. Thus, I would like to set up some Skype chats with you to discuss alternatives to this. In mi mind, the obvious thing to do is to have an opening ceremony at ITCR on the first day and conduct the meetings, talks and parallel sessions for that day there. For the following days, the limitation we have in the La Fortuna área is that there are no suitable places to hold a meeting for a very large group (except for ITCR’s facilities), but, if we break down the audience in smaller groups (<=60) for parallel sessions, I am sure we can accommodate them in facilities that some hotels offer. Please let us know when is a good time to schedule a first Skype talk. We look forward to being an active participant of TDWG and to host the annual meeting in Costa Rica.

Saludos,

Erick
