External 2.5" disk is not working #412

First of all: Great job on this app. It's a thing of beauty!

I'm having this problem since I got a new harddisk for CoverFloader 1.1
Upgading to 1.2 and 1.2a has not resolved the issue, and I have been using
an external 3.5" disk without problems for months now.

Just for my Wii I bought the kinda Wii-looking 2.5" harddrive case:
• ICY BOX IB-223StU-Wh
(http://www.raidsonic.de/en/pages/products/external_cases.php?we_objectID=5559)

Into it I built this harddrive:
• Seagate Momentus 5400.6 Model: ST9320325AS (320GB)

Partitioning the drive as well as formating it to WBFS and transfering game
ISOs is no problem on a PC, and the WBFS software gives me no grief at all.
But CoverFloader, after a ferw seconds of "Initializing Disk..." gives me
the gray "USB Error - Drive not found". At this point, the Wii Remote lost
the connection and can not connect again, and I don't get a pointer on the
screen, which lets me suspect, that the application has crashed at this point.

During the startup of CoverFloader, before the red bar even shows, I notica
one single, short flicker of the external drive's activity LED.

I had the suspicion that maybe this is a power issue and that the harddisk
is not receiving enough power from the Wii's USB ports to function
properly, but when I format the drive with FAT32 and use the WiiXplorer, I
can use the drive without problems. To test this I copied a large RAR
archive (ca. 50MB) from the SD card to the drive and then unpacked it
againon the PC, which worked just fine, so power can't be the issue here.

I even copied the working WBFS partition from my 3.5" drive 1:1 to the new
2.5" drive using Arconis Disk Director's 'copy partition' function. No change!

I must say that TeknoConsolas SD&USB loader (1.5) does just as little.
Allthough it does not crash, it tells me "No WBFS partition found!" and on
the attempt to format, says "Error: No partitions found!".

The Wii Homebrew software LSUSB gives the following readout for the device:

I hate to break it to you, but the issue is the enclosure you are using is not
compatiable with a Wii usb loader....

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?title=USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

Scroll down until you get to enclosures, yours is listed as "Doesn't Work". Try
a
new enclosure that is onb the list as working and see if that resolves it for
you.

Thanks for the info and sorry for not having seen that myself.

Is there any chance that the enclosure will be included in future updates?

So far, I still have the big, ugly 3.5" drive connected, so I can afford to be
patient... ;-)

Most likely not, there are a few icybox enclosures for 2.5" drives that will
work
however. My hard drive is pushed all the way to the back so you can not see it,
but
I have been looking at a few nice terabyte enclosers for around $100. A few are
white, and listed on that list..

Yeah, I guess I will have to find another enclosure, especially since
CoverFloader
appears to be based on Waninkoko's USB Loader, who just anounced his depature
from
the Wii platform last month... :-(

Ah well... :-)
