[Feature Request] Compact chat view #5634

Open TomTheDragon opened 5 years ago

It would make Telegram so much more friendly to use, if we had an option to turn off the chat bubbles, so that its more in the style of Discord. Its really difficult to follow bigger chats, if just a few people are able to flood the whole screen that easily An extra bonus would be the option to go all simple, with tiny or even without any avatars, so that its more in line with IRC style wise.

Who would join forces and try to come out with an electron client that does NOT behave as a "web page in an app" ? I think we could use TDLib and the electron framework...

zxzzz8 commented 5 years ago

i personally feel like having ''default interface scale'' below 100% would also be helpful, for me right now everything in the program feels way too big on the screen....

cristian64 commented 5 years ago

The chat bubbles on Telegram Desktop is a waste of space. Even worse if you typically chat with developers that tend to share code snippets.

TomTheDragon commented 5 years ago

We dont even have the option, to let the bubbles use the full width of the window.

@23rd Thanks! 😄

This UI setting is already available on the official Telegram X for Android app.

AppearanceLinuxMenu It appears that in the Mac OS version, it is possible to toggle "Bubbles Mode", and this feature is absent from the Linux version of the application (the attached screenshot is all the settings available for modifying the appearance). Are currently any plans to port this feature to the Linux version (Currently on Version 1.8.15)? EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm talking about the C# version of the Mac OS Telegram app, not the Mac version in this repository.

can u please attach the screenshot highlighting what part u are referring to as chat bubbles/ which part u want removed or of the reference app (u mentioned discord and irc)?

skype conversation

Here's an example of a conversation with the chat bubbles. In the Mac OS X version of the application, the "compact view" has these all taking up the same width (across the screen, essentially), instead of these text-message bubbles. 06-08-20-at-22:05:37

There's a lot of empty space here. Now compare it to the Mac OS X version:

It is a lot better for reading several messages that come from one source.

+1 for that feature. Its hard to read long messages when telegram forces a newline after a certain width even when the screen has a lot of width space left.

I would really love this feature as well, I use mainly Telegram X on mobile and it's something I really miss in my laptop.

kajoken commented 1 year ago

1,5 years later we still don't have this feature. It's even the opposite. After updating Telegram Desktop today the chat bubbles are even more annoying than before. Please give us the option to disable chat bubbles completely like in Telegram X.
