Anything new with this topic?
It would be really great if it would be possible to link YouTube videos to routes and have a overview of all videos in the selected area. Right now it is only possible to start a discussion or write the link in the route description if you want to link a video.
Realistically this is a long way down our priority list. You can currently post a video inside an ascent description or as you said against a comment in the forum against a route or area. This is 80% of what most people would want. You can also post a video inside the route description, but I'd discourage this as it's clutter and won't do anything useful when you export to pdf etc
Hmm, maybe I'm one of the 20%, but it would be really cool to show with an icon in the index list if a video is linked or not. I typically don't go through all the individual route pages to check if there is anything interesting.
I'm not saying this isn't desirable, I'm just saying we have other stuff we are focusing on first and we have limited resources
I am also really keen on this one. However there are dozens of issues like this which I am really keen on and there are some really serious priorities we are working on.
Development for the site is like an iceberg. Nobody sees anything for 90% of the workload. As we are self funded we all have to earn money independently. This means really cool ideas stay as ideas for quite some time.
That being said, when we do build this we will also want to build our own youtube channel.
No worries, guys. It's already a pretty cool iceberg you've produced ;-) Just keep on the good work!
I only thought that this should be pretty simple to implement: an additional field in the route data mask needed to collect URLs with video content, and an icon showing that this field is not empty.

+1 Having that connection with videos (and/or photos) of routes and boulders would make browsing crags so much more entertaining and bring them to life.
The solution for adding video links into forum posts or ascents is sub-optimal because you usually don't see those. I currently put video links into route descriptions as a workaround.
I've recently tried this together with the new beta app and it's pretty cool to have everything linked in one place. Here's how it looks like:
Maybe duplicate / overlap with https://github.com/theCrag/website/issues/1678
It would be really cool to link bouldering routes to videos, and have to have a library of bouldering videos to browse.
Currently embedding allows us to link routes to videos.
We should have a place for climbers to easily look for new videos submitted.
Also if we had a youtube channel it people could submit to that for more exposure. Side benefit of renenue for theCrag via youtube.
