my default language is set to german. Doing a long tap on letter A nevertheless
does not insert a letter ä by default but brings up the horizontal menu where
ä has to be selected.
The standard Android keyboard has this functionality which allows much faster
writing.
Proposition:
a short tap on a inserts letter a
a long tap on letter a inserts the punctuated letter according to language
selection (eg. ä for german)
an extra long tap on a bring up todays menu which allows to select any
punctuated letter a
