It did not. Life took off in a different direction. If this was to be formalized it would need to be done by someone else.

Are there any plans for release of a formal specification? I see in #58 https://github.com/ubjson/universal-binary-json/issues/58 it was a goal to have an RFC in 2015, did that go anywhere?
I think it would be a great help to the project to have at least a formal draft out there which would make it very clear how the spec is progressing and get more eyes on it.

@rkalla by someone else do you mean not you personally, or someone not currently part of the UBJ project?
Oh, just not by me personally. I would love for someone to formalize this, just not time I have.

Anyone we could @mention who might be suited to the task? I can take a pass at it after I write an implementation to get a better grasp on the spec, but I'm sure there are other far more qualified people.

Since we're referencing UB-JSON in requirements classes of the candidate OGC API - Discrete Global Grid Systems international standard (see recent request for public comments), we would really love UB-JSON to be adopted in a standard body. Would anyone be either of you be interested in supporting the standardization of UB-JSON, potentially as an OGC Community Standard? Thank you!

Also, the closest alternative I see to UBJ is CBOR which is currently standards track. It seems like it would be hard to get mainstream adoption when such a close alternative exists which is standardized.
