This is a basic research project, so direct applications to the "real world" were not the main intent. That said, the most amazing applications we have developed as humans have come from basic research that was not intended to be applied. for instance, the development of MRI, one of the most important diagnostic tools of the century, came from basic physic research into proton spins.
Research on memory and attention is relevant for issues of mental health (e..g, ADHD, schizophrenia, depression)...Learning about how the brain works will help us to diagnose and correct problems more effectively. There have also been some fascinating appilcations of neural decoding to brain-computer or brain-machine interfaces, such as allowing paralyzed patients to control robotic arms or wheelchairs.
I'm not familiar with the nuroscience topic. But I'm curious how could the conclusion of alpha-band activity connected with covert orienting be applied to the real-world?
