WAN port is always on, timing? #109

Hello

First of all, loving HSMM!

Just a quick questions. I have a whole bunch of pie's setup with 3G USB dongles, and each is setup as a gateway node, so that if they loose their 3G connection, then can use that of another in the mesh.

All seems to be working (tell me if this setup is not correct, i.e having every node as a gateway node!). But if i remove the usb device, the timeout for it to detect its lost its connectivity is a little long, can i reduce this time? It seems to take around 3-4 mins in general at the moment to heal the connection, i.e switch to mesh vs local wired connection, and vice versa.

Also how is the internet connection tested, how much data does this use?

Cheers

Ben
