water use/water temp/water storage: create about page and "tab" #673

to address a lot of the feedback related to the desire to zoom in, click for more details, etc etc. we decided we need an about page. this should exist as a new tab/link in front of water storage | water use | water temperature

the content will be developed and added separately, but create the page and all the other needs for it.

One reviewer suggested defining IWAAs more clearly in the water storage section of the ? page, but perhaps this feedback is more appropriately moved to the about page? "These pages show one product, a near real-time census, of the USGS IWAAs at various spatial scales for human and ecological uses. An additional IWAA product is seasonal predictions of water availability.""

Here is a suggested text for the About Page. Please input to the page so I can show the modelers Wednesday afternoon. I'll send along to Jen Bruce for her comments/suggestions too. Feel free to suggest changes/enhancements. Do we need an IWAAS definition here? I didn't include a lot about the pipeline or the cloud portions. I may sleep on it and do some editing in the morning.

This is a demonstration map and is not for decision making. It shows the latest available modeled daily estimates of natural water storage for approximately 110,000 regions or Hydrologic Response Units across the lower forty-eight U.S. states. Natural water storage includes water present on the landscape such as standing water (ponds, lakes, and wetlands), and water in snowpack, soil water, and shallow groundwater. It does not include water in rivers, reservoirs, or deep groundwater. Map shading indicates the current natural water storage relative to historical conditions for this time of year.

Water Use spash screen text pasted here: This is a demonstration map and is not for decision making. The maps contains modeled estimates of each season's average daily water use rate-of-withdrawal for approximately 85,000 watersheds during 2015. These daily estimates of thermoelectric, public supply, and irrigation water uses are derived from monthly 2015 estimates of water withdrawals from surface and groundwater sources. Withdrawals do not reflect water consumed and/or returned. Original modeled data are available for 12-digit hydrologic unit code (HUC) watersheds, that were aggregated to larger 10-digit HUC for ease of display at a National scale. The locations of dots on the map do not necessarily represent the exact location of the withdrawals.

Updates_Q&A_Dec2.docx I would like to see this on the app. I would really like a read through from you all to verify that the text and the image/diagram is correct. I think I'd like to add a 'cloud' icon around each cloud step instead of the "(1)" parentheses. Comments welcome. @mhines-usgs @mwernimont @lindsayplatt

Attached is a Word doc that has the changes for the About page. You should be able to copy and paste the text in and not worry about the 'track changes' in the sharepoint version. I'll attach an updated figure for the pipeline too.

It appears that the font on Mobile is too small to read at first? The letters seem to be too close together in the figure. The 't's in 'store' look a little funny. do you see that?

Yep Megans eagle eyes caught the text oddness. I redid the diagram quickly so we could avoid the text display errors.

move comma or delete space in operational pipeline sentence after (Bock et al 2020), "geospatial data sets (Bock et. al, 2020) , re-format them"

@jenniferRapp does this include nav links? We are already facing a space issue on mobile with current text. If it is a must a rethink of mobile navigation is probably needed.

Actually is this a change just for the about page or the entire site? Such as the QA page.

Concept Map belongs in the Title. If you need to remove the "Water Availability Mapper" for space, that is fine.

@mwernimont I have an update to about page and Q&A that will be coming. I created a page for Joe and John Brakebill to edit. I'll let you know when those are finalized. I will try to update them so that the entire paragraph can be replaced. We are adding one new question to both water temp and water storage.

I'm more of a fan large chunk changes over several small ones, less chance of something being missed, so if its okay will wait for final updates to come in.
