Expected behavior:
Maximizing using the buttons on the window bar should go smoothly, as smoothly as the Adwaita theme.
Bug:
Maximizing using the buttons on the window bar leads to a 2 to 5 second freezing of some program.
Misc info:
There are no problems when using shortcuts to maximize or minimize windows.
It is caused by the GTK theme only.
AdwaitaDracula, Fantome, Lumiere, Noita, Ocha, Sephia, Tee and Vestica do not produce this delay.
From my experience, it affects nautilus, gnome-terminalgnome-tweaks, terminator, xfce4-terminalsakura and more.
It does not affect qt apps, firefox, mate-terminal, st, emacs, gimp and others.
Sometimes the delay happens while maximizing only or while minimizing only, it is inconsistent.
The iconify and close buttons work fine.
