Pepsi broke the contract

An API is a contract with the world, and that makes it one of the hardest things to get right in software design.

Just wrote to UK regulators complaining about lack of transparency regarding Pepsi recipe change.

The more I think about this, the more it frightens me to think that any company may suddenly change their product's formula without specifically alarming users to it.

Same packaging, same everything, just a tiny little change in the ingredients.

Dear Trading Standards,

I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning issue regarding PepsiCo, specifically related to the non-disclosure of changes made to the recipe of their flagship beverage, Pepsi.

As a consumer of Pepsi products, I recently discovered that PepsiCo has made significant alterations to the Pepsi recipe without providing adequate and visible disclosure on the product packaging. More specifically, they have introduced the artificial sweetener Acesulfame K (also known as Acesulfame Potassium or Ace-K) into the formula.

It is disheartening to note that PepsiCo has not adhered to the principle of transparency and consumer rights by failing to disclose this recipe modification visibly on their product cans. If the branding and packaging remains the same, it is common practice to add a "new formula" or something similar. Acesulfame K is listed in the ingredients, but for a product that has existed unaltered for decades, to suddenly change formula without any note, it's definitely misleading, and I'm paying for it; my bladder gets triggered by Ace-K.

The absence of clear and explicit labelling regarding the inclusion of Acesulfame K in Pepsi raises the following concerns:

Allergies and Sensitivities: Many consumers have dietary restrictions and allergies to specific ingredients. Failing to disclose the inclusion of Acesulfame K prevents individuals from making informed choices and could potentially lead to adverse health reactions.

Consumer Rights: Transparent and accurate labelling is crucial for consumer empowerment and the protection of their rights. It allows individuals to decide whether a product aligns with their dietary needs, preferences, and ethical considerations.

Given the importance of transparency in the food and beverage industry, I kindly request that your regulatory agency investigate this matter thoroughly. It is vital to ensure that PepsiCo adheres to the necessary regulations and guidelines, guaranteeing accurate and comprehensive product labelling for consumer protection.

Furthermore, I would appreciate it if you could take appropriate action to enforce the following measures:

Mandatory Disclosure: Require PepsiCo to explicitly disclose that the formula has changed on the product packaging, ensuring that consumers are fully aware of the changes made to the recipe.

I trust in the regulatory agency's commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring transparency within the industry. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and action regarding this issue.

Yours sincerely,

Frankie
