Chrome extensions cannot open new tabs? #1340

I'm not sure if it's a bug, a feature, or just a wrong configuration, but Chrome extensions are unable to open new tabs. I have tried AddToAny and Shareaholic.

They're both very simple. There's a menu under the extension icon, containing a list of services that you can use to share the address of the currently active tab. There're services like read later/bookmarking services, e-mail services, social networks, etc. When you select a service from the list, it just opens a new tab with the extension's website, which immediately redirects you to the target (selected) service with proper parameters, so Gmail with a new message, Twitter with a new tweet, Hacker news with a new post, etc., is opened with the address to be shared prepopulated.

It works well in other Chromium-based browsers, but when I select a service from the extension's list in Wavebox, instead of opening a new tab, the address of the current app/tab changes for a split second, then returns back (it may be that it tries to open a new tab, but it's immediately closed) and nothing is actually opened.

Both mentioned extensions have that issue rendering them useless in Wavebox. Is it a bug or is there any setting that prevents extensions from opening new tabs (I wasn't able to find anything)?

Not working on the following setup:

I just found it they're both working as expected on the following setup:

Thanks, unfortunately, I've not been able to reproduce the same here. Would you be able to try with the latest stable (10.0.542). If that doesn't work, can you generate some diagnostics so we can try to reproduce the same setup here...

Settings > General > Advanced > Generate Diagnostics (button) > Send to Wavebox (button).

Once you've done that, drop support@wavebox.io a message and we'll take a closer look at what's different between your setup and what we've been trying here

So do those extensions actually open a new tab on your machine when you select a service from their menu?

I have the version 10.0.542.2 stable currently but it's still the same. It just changes the address in the address bar for a moment like it's going to open the share page and then it replaces it with the original address and nothing else happens.

I'll send you the diagnostic data later today.

And I have another extension that simply doesn't work at all for me: FlowCrypt. The same issue: it's supposed to open a new tab (chrome-extension: //...) with a setup wizard right after the installation, when you click on the extension icon or on a link it displays on the Gmail page, as happens in the Vivaldi browser, for example, but in Wavebox, nothing is opened.

Can you drop support@wavebox.io a message, I need the email address you're using with Wavebox to be able to locate the diagnostics you sent
