Agile Estimation

For new team, makes sense to do estimations in hours for short planning tasks. Story points its for established team and forcasting

Story point:

Pick the amount of affort comparing user stories
Relative estimations in story points, absolute estimations in time
Story points are used for estimating the overall effort:
- The amount of work
- Risk and Uncertainly (Uncleaer requirements or sensitive changes)
- Comlexity

Poker Planning:

Participators: Dev Team, Scrum Master, Product Owner
Every estimator holds a deck of cards (0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 40, 100)
Applying to user stories

T-shirt sizing:

T-shirt sizing is done at early stage project, after receiving the product roadmap
Useful when there is too much ambiguity and uncertainty to estimate
Mapping to sprint XS(1/2 sprint), S(1 sprint), M(2 sprints), L(3-5 sprints), XL(6+ sprints)
Applying to epics or feature

Affinity Mapping:

Groups tasks with similar complexity together
Team members estimate the relative effort of each group
Used in situations where user stories need to be estimated quickly and easily
The estimation is done against story points or T-shirt sizes

Bucket system:

Categorize tasks into predefined buckets low, medium, high

Dot voting:

Visual technic to identify the highest complexity
Team places dots next to task, they believe require more effort
