This applies when observing games "live", not in replays.

Well there is already an option in the preferences :
Multiplayer -> Show lobby joins
Did you unchecked it ?
It should normally do what you want.

Ah, but this wish is different, and only applies to the log.
I want to normally see the lobby joins in-game, in real time, to see who logs on. So I wouldn't want to uncheck the option.
However, when observing games live, especially if I look elsewhere for a while, I sometimes check back on the discussions in the in-game chat by choosing the menu option "View Chatlog". It is unnecessary for the reader to see the lobby joins displayed there for the second time. I hope this clarifies the request.
I'd like to say still, that the info about people joining is most useful when received at the moment they join, if the observer happens to be watching at that moment, whereas when reading the chatlog the information isn't really needed and distracts from finding the real chat messages.
If the observer at a later point wants to check who is on, a better option than the chatlog is to return to the lobby.

In fact, currently this is just the opposite! You have the lobby joins in the chatlog even if you do not have "Show lobby joins" chosen.

I hope it's not overly complicated to achieve, because they are unnecessary spam, and obstruct reading true chat from the chatlog when observing.
