Some USB keyboard key presses are lost when typing quickly (Minimig core) #4

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Boot Kickstart 3.1 with no Startup-Sequence (from the boot menu)
2. Type (quickly) into the shell using the USB keyboard

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
All typed keys should be recognized. Instead some keys are lost. Sometimes the
last (detected) key is repeated.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Minimig core from R134 on production MIST board from Lotharek

I confirm this issue.

It does occur with the latest Minimig core, in both the OSD and the games
(annoying in flippers for instance).

When you keep a key pressed, it's released automatically after a variable
amount of time.

If I'm not mistaken, only the first keypresses after a reset are lost,
subsequently it's fine... so it shouldn't be a problem within games.

Well, I just checked again and it seems to occur all the time, actually.

Weird... can you post the disk image you're using?

It actually also happens from the OSD. If you want an example where it makes
the game almost unplayable : Obsession Pinball (adf version).

Oh, you're talking about Amiga... got to set that part up. But why would it
only be the Amiga part, assuming relevant code is the same?

Oops, sorry, I thought it was obvious (bugreport title) :-)

However I just checked in the Atari ST OSD, the keypresses are also
automatically released after a variable amount of time so I guess this is the
same issue !

Out of curiosity, I'll double check with a different keyboard.

OK, we're making progress :

after checking it occured with a different keyboard, I unplugged my mouse : it
solved the issue.

Actually, the mouse is connected to a 2xPS/2->USB adapter. It can be used to
plug both a keyboard and a mouse to a single USB port.

The adapter seems to be at fault in this specific case. Of course, I would like
to underline the fact the issue doesn't happen with a regular computer, like a
Raspberry Pi for instance.

In my case, I'll simply work around it by changing this adapter...

Yeah, didn't notice the subject, totally my mistake :)

Copying the files as I'm typing this.

But, I can't find Obsession Pinball in the Amiga TOSEC...??

Ahhh good. I'm using a wireless keyboard/mouse combo myself, using the same
adapter in the USB port and seems to be working fine...

I'm almost sure it's in the TOSEC. You can find a legal whdload version on
back2roots.org, or ADF versions from other places...

Thanks for your replies btw !

Hmmm in the 20131005 TOSEC I can only find one title with 'Obsession' in it:
Obsession (1995)(Unique Development) . But will try later, got to go now - nice
you sorted it out though!

And, my pleasure; got to support this project...
