Cannot watch age restricted videos #596

I am getting an age restricted prompt when trying to watch age restricted videos. I do have the age set in my account settings. Age restricted videos work in browser with that account, but in SmartTube I am blocked off by the age restriction. Is there any way to fix this? Perhaps add age restriction as a switch to the options?

SmartTubeNext version 11.3

Funny Age Restricted Videos work fine for me even without an account. Is this a new (Anti) feature?

Do you use any kind of adblocker? I had this same issue when using Adguard DNS. When I changed the DNS back to my ISP DNS the issue was resolved.

This is a regional thing I suppose. In Germany, most people now get prompted for their passport / id when trying to watch an age restricted video. There is a workaround though: https://github.com/zerodytrash/Simple-YouTube-Age-Restriction-Bypass/blob/main/Simple-YouTube-Age-Restriction-Bypass.user.js I suppose the same could be integrated into SmartTubeNext.

For example, I cannot watch this video on SmartTubeNext at all and in the browser it only works with the bypass script or by verifying my age through passport or credit card: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6Al2-eTrT8

+1 to the workaround suggestion.

That being said, unlike the outcomes mentioned above, every age restricted video I try doesn't even load correctly, there are no prompts or anything, regardless of a VPN. Just a player menu that reads "0:00/0:00".

Moreover, I would prefer not having to sign in or provide ID just to view videos.

PPS. I am not very adept with technology or the internet but would like to know if is possible to highlight certain issues (like pinning it on (top of) the issues list) so that the dev would be more aware of this issue/request?

@DraconicNEO , Assuming that you are still able to view age gated videos without signing in; would it be possible for you to provide some details (like what version? or settings you are using?) that could help in investigating the reason why you are not facing this issue?

It has since stopped working unfortunately.

The videos play in my browser, in the same network, without any issues and without the use of any scripts or adblockers. Same on my Android phone in the vanilla YouTube app. Curiously, the vanilla Android TV YouTube app has that same issue as SmartTubeNext. @yuliskov can anything be done please? It's very annoying. I'm signed in and my google account has age set at >18.

@89z https://youtu.be/KvzCuLAS4Gk it mentions in the description in the "notice" section "Age-restricted video (based on Community Guidelines)" and doesn't play at all in SmartTubeNext.

I'm not saying you can't, there probably is many solutions to that. But on a computer. They won't work in a closed environment like an Android TV. But I guess this could be a solution @yuliskov could implement in SmartTubeNext, if it's correct.

@89z I think you left your API key in the pasted request?

I think they're either too busy or don't care very much about this project (I'm betting on the first one) maybe they should get some collaborators to help run the project, maybe even move this to an organization.
