Check for basic pre-requisites on run #41

Tired, always the same dependency people are missing. We need to at least check
for it. Will do when I can if you don't beat me to it. Recommend isolation into
a new script so it can be referenced by any script. check-prereqs.sh or
something.

This would probably be easiest to do with a configure script.

From the other bug reports, it looks like the crc32 function has been removed
from zlib in Ubuntu, and possibly there have been some other changes? If this
is the case, we might consider including a version of zlib that we know works
and build everything against that.

Agreed. I am not sure if it was removed, or simply changed in its prototype.
Either way, same difference, and we need to link against the older one.

Don't need to do this as the issue was in the Makefiles, but I still think a
simple configure script to check for pre-requisites is a good idea. I'll put on
in the src directory.

Added a configure script to check for basic functions/headers as well as zlib
prior to running make.
