Setting up via link #5803

Hi. Would it be possible to have the mobile app support some sort of setup link, sent via e-mail, sms or a QR-code in the desktop app? My users quite often doesn't really understand entering the servername.

Having a QR-code in the profile-page of the desktop app, containing a url and token would be really neat.

Some sort of DNS autodiscovery could solve the problem too, creating a zulip-autodiscover record on the domain, and have the user enter their e-mail instead.

Hi @lurendrejer, thanks for the suggestion. That's an interesting idea.

Do you know of other apps that have a feature somewhat along those lines? That'd be helpful for ideas about what a good UX might look like.

Outlook+exchange and citrix workspace app has dns Discovery and mdm-push abilities (both mobile and desktop). Nextcloud uses qr-codes for mobile+token setup.
