Control keys not working in e-mail

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. custom keyboard with control keys (left, right, home, etc.)
2. use in message body in Mail
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Control keys do not function.  Repeated presses turns keyboard into text
(e.g. <Del> instead of delete key character).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system
(iPhone/iPod Touch? Firmware version?)?

iKeyEx 3, iTouch 2G, firmware 3.1.2

Please provide any additional information below.

Control keys work fine in Notes, so custom keyboard is not the problem.
