I asked BGM/SE person, and it looks like the issue is more with our documentation/descriptions of the BGM/SE
They've stated that our SE changes only revert the audio to the Pre-april update SE, and doesn't try to revert all the way back to the original Japanese version of the game.
I think this is mainly due to the amount of work involved, as you'd need to not only swap out the SE, but add special cases in the script for when each SE is played as they play at different times in the OG game.
I understand that you may want this issue fixed "properly", but the person involved in the BGM/SE is not currently interested in doing this due to the amount of work involved, and I don't think anyone on our team has the knowledge of the SE to do it properly.
So with that in mind, we need to update our documentation/in-game descriptions to reflect what our SE fixes actually are, in two places:
I'm closing this issue now as all the docs have been updated to state what our SE actually is. We also renamed our "Original BGM/SE" to "GIN's BGM/SE" to avoid people assuming it is identical to the original game's BGM/SE.
For more details see our updated FAQ page https://07th-mod.com/wiki/Higurashi/BGM-SE-FAQ/
Also, this issue is now linked on the BGM/SE Issues Index https://github.com/07th-mod/higurashi-patch-compiler/issues/64, in case someone wants to come back to it and fully replace the SE with the original versions.
Having done some independent research into the 2006 version of Higurashi, I've come to a disturbing conclusion: many sound effects that 07th Mod claims are "original" have no appearance in the true first release of Higurashi, and likely originate from MangaGamer (in either the 2009 or 2016 localisations).
I'm only researching Kai at the moment, but here's what I know so far. (Note that the 2006 SFX do NOT use the same naming scheme as MangaGamer.)
Some of the sound effects changed in 2019 are actually reinsertions of 2006 sound effects, such as "money_noise03" (First sound in this footage is 2006, next sound is 07thMod, last sound is 2019 - https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/83939/181727955-34a320c5-3bb6-46fe-90b2-317532f3c698.mp4) and "s_suzu" (https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/83939/181729494-f823e2c1-68c4-4995-ae3e-783bb8131803.mp4)
Others are audibly different in all three versions, such as "s_kamera" (https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/83939/181728740-d6fc8153-2606-4e7a-9528-58b48c123320.mp4)
In at least one interesting case, the 2006 version of a sound effect ("s_z01_iwakan") is notably different from all other versions, having an added reverb (https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/83939/181730167-fb584835-ffc1-4e15-aec8-302261149141.mp4).
Anyway, it seems like, since nothing on the site mentioned it, this has escaped your notice until now. Personally, I think the "original" sound effect option should actually reflect the original release, and not just MangaGamer's 2016 release.
If you want my source for this version of Higurashi, I torrented it from here: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:d330791f2aaa789ba37e9719ecc8522fc08eef58 If you'd rather I upload the entire WAV folder somewhere for your perusal, I can do that.
Finally, I have NOT cross-referenced any of this with Hou+ (its demo or the full version) yet.
