my Fadblock got detected 2 times as of now (growing concern) #196

Open AverageYTuser opened 4 months ago

AverageYTuser commented 4 months ago

I was just opening a video for youtube then, the moment it skipped the ads, it displayed the "Adblock is not allowed on youtube" message, I had to refresh it to watch the video. This is a growing concern because even if the ads are played for a brief period it might still get detected anyways, note that I am using only Fadblock and no other adblocks.

edit: 3rd of June 9:04 am Ph time. It's already gotten worse, I have to refresh every video to watch

pquodling commented 4 months ago

Yup, seeing the same.

Even worse, removed and reloaded the extension and it appears to have stopped working completely.

LazerHax commented 4 months ago

Can confirm, also seeing the same. Except for me, it's not even fast-forwarding the ads anymore.

SheeepsAreNice commented 4 months ago

If you have ANY other adblocking extension installed – even if it's off or deactivated for YouTube – this is probably what is being detected. See this recently closed thread: https://github.com/0x48piraj/fadblock/issues/194

AverageYTuser commented 3 months ago

Just checked and managed my extensions. For some reason I have Ublock origin installed I don't remember adding it to opera GX It probably got added during the constant updates of the Gx browser last week. Also the Opera adblocker doesn't work on my browser so I'll leave it be. Anyways I'll remove the Ublock on my browser. If I don't get the "violate terms bla bla bla" for the next coming videos I will be watching and the next 2 days, I'll consider the issue fixed.

Edit: Just got an adblock warning after removing Ublock, Probably cause I freshly removed it

Edit 2: hours later and it's still showing me the warning. I might migrate back to Google cause I can't remove the built in adblocker of Opera GX

Try clearing your cookies and browser cache, and sign out and back in to your Google account.

AverageYTuser commented 3 months ago

Sweet! It worked. Only problem is I just noticed that it removed the recommended videos on the right side of Yt. But I don't mind.

Alright, day 1 checked. Few problems encountered but disappeared after clearing cookies and cache

Day 2 update: no issues, pretty good. Hopefully the last day won't disappoint

Day 3 update (Final): UNFORTUNATELY, it disappointed. It showed up again damn it. Do I have to clear browser data again?

Thanks a lot for helping out @SheeepsAreNice, you're awesome!

Hi there. I've been using Fadblock for a few months since the crackdown on Ad Blockers came in, but I have found it's been getting detected on and off with increasing frequency lately, and it's happened several times today. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Fablock Origin after reading about the front page post, I have cleared my cookies and cache and restarted my PC, but the issue is still coming back, even when I completely disable AdBlock for all other websites. I'm using Firefox FWIW. Hope this can be fixed soon. Thanks.

AverageYTuser commented 3 months ago

Yeah I just updated my day 3 update. It sucks that it's back. I thought I was gonna be able to watch in peace. Now the "Adblock not allowed" is acting like an annoying Mormon again.

pquodling commented 3 months ago

I am still seeing ads. I am on a 2017 MBP running Veentura 13.6.7 and firefox 126.0.1

I removed and reinstalled the extension, removed completely any possible extensions that might interfere, cleared cookies and cache, and logged out of and into again, Google/Youtube. Still getting ads non stop.

ynkfish commented 3 months ago

Getting detected in chrome as well (currently on v125.0.6422.78)

jacanteros commented 3 months ago

Same situation here. Meanwhile, I’m watching YT videos on Duck Player.

AverageYTuser commented 3 months ago

YouTube did get their games up. I'm using Fadblock on incognito mode in OperaGx (doesn't get detected in incog including chrome and others).

I guess, see you all again when YouTube loosens their Anti adblock shenanigans.

0x48piraj commented 3 months ago

As said, the extension works and is daily used by me and most of my peers. The moment it really stops working, I fix it up.

To all those who are running other adblockers side by side, I cannot help, they are getting detected. Worse yet, YouTube puts a tracker when detected and that causes the "I deleted the other adblockers and I am still getting detected" queries.

Even after logging out, clearing out the cookies and logging back in sometimes doesn't fix the issue for some (it fixed for most of us) hinting they are marking the accounts using adblockers server-side but I can't say for sure as FadBlock works perfectly for me as of now and many of the supporters I have talked to over the email.

bencgtravels commented 3 months ago

Point taken on Youtube potentially marking accounts behind the scenes. It's a weird one for me, because I downloaded a different extension that mutes and fast-forwards ads instead of 'skipping' them like Fadblock. It's a much bigger disruption still, but it did work when Fadblock stopped. But, then YouTube started detecting the fast-forwarder too, so now I'm running both Fadblock and the fast-forwarder together and now it seems to be ok again.

Either way, if I have YouTube completely whitelisted on my regular Adblocker I use everywhere else online, and Fadblock is the only Youtube-ad-specific extension I have installed, but its getting detected, you can see why people would think YouTube is detecting Fadblock. If you insist it isn't, what would you suggest we do please? I do mean this in the nicest way of course, with gratitude. :)

PVTejas commented 3 months ago

Tested it a bit, and if fadblock is active and a pre-roll ad is fast-forwarded, youtube shows a message saying adblockers are not allowed. Activating the extension after the ad starts playing (like, within half a second) skips the ad and doesn't trigger adblock detection

0x48piraj commented 3 months ago

I am keeping an eye out but so far, it's genuinely working for my and everyone else and by recent reviews - it's being solidified.

To be perfectly candid, I have had some FF'ing of videos when I am watching a mix and I am working on that (no YouTube Adblocker banners though).

AverageYTuser commented 3 months ago

Oh so the Daily or often YouTube watchers get marked with the "adblockers not allowed" pop-up in my understanding. Well I spend watching YouTube everyday, no wonder I got these pop-up warnings.

By the way I'm still watching YouTube in incognito, I'll probably return to using my account in August and see if Yt don't detect me anymore.

PVTejas commented 3 months ago

Further updates: after turning fadblock on after about 5 seconds of ads for a few times, it doesn't seem to be getting detected anymore. Unless the extension has been updated, I think sitting through ads for a few seconds longer over a couple of days could help.

JTH366 commented 3 months ago

Unfortunately Fadblock has stopped working for me on Chrome. I have deleted cookies and history, turned Fadblock on and off but the issue remains.

SheeepsAreNice commented 3 months ago

I'm starting to believe that they might be marking accounts server-side. The last time I got a generic blocker warning was about two weeks ago – signing out and deleting cookies and site info solved it in brave. However, today I got a first-strike blocker warning – signing out and deleting cookies and site info has again solved it, but if in time I get a second-strike warning that might prove it.

jacanteros commented 3 months ago

Yesterday I got a first-strike blocker warning too, but I had uBlock active on YT. I set an exception for YT on uBlock and haven’t got a second warning …yet. I hope it stays this way.

If fadblock looses the war, I’ll use DuckDuckGo player. What would you guys do? Any suggestions?

"what would you guys do?"

In a friendly way, "Incognito mode" either chrome or opera, etc. It may be trouble for some but for me it was when I started using it most of the time, now I've adjusted to it already, been pretty chill in incog ever since.

I believe FBO is being detected as I am getting the "Ad blockers violate YouTube's Terms of Service" dialog box. It started for me today but I've not watched YT much lately so my timing might be off, it may have started in the last day or two. . I have a few blockers, all whitelisted to YT and everything has been great till this week. When playing YT the only extension not whitelisted is FBO. I followed YT instructions to be in compliance with these other blockers. After getting the dialog box and following their instructions again (there were no changes I needed to make to comply with their orders except FBO was still there) I disabled FBO by managing all extensions. YT plays ads again with all the normal extensions enabled and whitelisted as they have been for months and YT is happy to have my eyeballs watching ads. YT works normally with FBO disabled but I get their dialog box when FBO is enabled. As a test I disabled all extensions except FBO and I get the dialog. Another test I enabled all extensions except FBO (with YT whitelisted in all of the others) and YT works perfectly as they like it; showing ads at normal speed. I don't believe they track me server side or have cookies set to say I'm a known ad block user since everything is immediately resolved when I simply disable FBO. I think they are simply detecting FBO when it is running and giving me their dialog box if FBO is running when it's time to serve up an ad. I think it's far more likely they have rolled this update out to part of the community (and are occasionally reading this site to see how their changes are working) before they roll out their YT changes to the world. It makes sense they would let FBO go for a while since revenue was not affected and now they have gotten around to testing some detection code. Chrome Version 126.0.6478.127 I'm happy to help test if you like. Cheers

FadBlock gets detected once again...
