When creating the intial user fails.. fail creating the node #160

Currently when the initial user creation fails the exception is just logged but the request continues happily ever after with no indication that the node is not as healthy as expected.

It would be nice if the request would fail and the node burned in fire (maybe leaving the logs for debugging?)
