"The initial position prior to in-air refuelling has the lead pilot at pre-contact and remaining pilots in order off the left wing of the tanker."
This line assumes no chicks on TKR, and is a dangerous presumtion of a successful rejoin (leaves no room for overshoot, if going direct for pre-contact which in my world is directly behind and and slightly below the tanker. (aft of the actual refuelling stations)
Second A/C to go pre-contact should wait for the first A/C to be connected and STABLE. Intent is that no A/C moves (to from hose) at the same time. When complete you go promptly down to clear well and get good visual of TKR and Right observation. (allowing for a excessive cross-under into the outside of right observation. (always taking position to the furthest right, regardless of flight order or composition)
Writing this I was looking for the AAR directives but can't find them?
