If it is possible to change the skill level of a unit without restarting the mission, then I guess this should be "as simple" as checking if a building is alive, if not - then adjust the level down for a given group of SAMs
Sorry to bring the doom, but no, cannot change skill level after it's spawned. It doesn't make that much difference to their reaction times as is. You can mess them up just switching them on and off though.
Yea, I had a feeling that was the case. Perhaps a solution is to give units a % chance to be switched off then? So; If building is destroyed, then randomChanceToSwitchOfUnit(unitName)
Counter-intuitively, loss of the main coordinating search radars would most probably mean they switch themselves on and stay on, rendering them more vulnerable to being detected and shot by ARM's.
Unless they just stay off completely in fear.
I was thinking the latter. But I guess there could be a chance of either or - because what we want them to do is act less smart and coordinated. And always-on or always-off would both do that
You could try something like 80% chance they are always on, else 20% chance they are permanently off. It has a stock 20% reduction in effectiveness whilst also seeming fairly realistic (to me). Overly granular rules with SAM's are never noticed by pilots, they live by their RWR and will not notice nuances
Would it be possible to tie several SAM groups into an Headquarter building of some sort. So if this building is taken out, then the SAM's skill level go down to average?
