494th Requirements

The 494th would like to request the carrier placed roughly 60 nm from Bodo (ENBO) since that will be the main 132nd airfield. Also, the 494th needs a sea range that can spawn 3 levels of ship difficulties.

Regarding 494th training missions need, I would say:

Basic training:

• At least 2 airfields with full VFR and IFR procedures (main and alternate airfields).
• A/G range with 2 to 4 strafing panels, and 2 to 4 bombing circles, and at least 1 bombing circle with an actual object in the middle for LASER operations. Automatic results assessment as in current range 5 would be great.
• Range with the ability to spawn a random neutral aircraft flying in straight line at a chosen range (<20 / 20-50 / >50Nm?). Speed and altitude depending on the type of aicraft, from very slow and very low to very high and very fast. Used for intercept and VID training.
• BFM/ACM range with the ability to spawn a single threat at a relatively close range (<20 Nm). Ideally, ability to choose threat type, level and weapons (eg: 0/0/0+ or 0/0/2-4+).
• BVR range with the ability to spawn a chosen number of threats at a relatively long range (<40 Nm). Ideally, ability to choose threat type, level and weapons (eg: 2/0/2+ or 0/2/2+).
• SEAD range with the ability to spawn/activate single threats. Fixed threats at known locations, mobile threats ideally at a random distance (5-10 Nm ?) from a known location. Threats working as singletons, with limited ammo. Possibility to deactivate them.
• ASuW range with the ability to spawn/activate targets at known locations. Ideally, ability to choose target type.
• CAS range in an environement with easy landmarks (roads, rivers, large infrastructures, etc...). Ability for the JTAC to spawn threats and fixed/mobile targets.

Intermediate training:

• A-G range with 2 to 4 strafing panels, and 4 to 6 bombing circles with an actual object in the middle for LASER operations. An area with some concentrations of vehicles of different types to work targets PID, and be able to train with cluster bombs. Ability to spawn a moving target following a known track. Located in an area with few landmarks to make target acquisition uneasy. Automatic results assessment as in current range 5 would be great. Possibility to spawn MANPAD(s) and/or AAA in the vicinity (ideally at random locations).
• SEAD range with the ability to spawn/activate layered defenses (eg: long+medium+short or medium+short range). Fixed threats at known locations, mobile threats ideally in random location. Threats working as a basic IADS, with standard ammo. Possibility to deactivate them.
• BVR range with enough depth to start away from radar coverage (80-100 Nm ?) and enough width to use azimuth (50-60 Nm?).
• CAS range in an environment with poor/no landmarks (inhabited areas, like forest). Ability for the JTAC to spawn threats and fixed/mobile targets.
• CAS range in a urban environment. Ability for the JTAC to spawn threats and fixed/mobile targets. Presence of neutral/blue forces to work on collateral damages management.
• RECCE area(s) with the ability to spawn a (random) number and type of vehicles at close proximity from known locations. Option to spawn MANPAD(s) and/or AAA in the vicinity.

Advanced training and qualifications:

• At least 2 range(s) with a consistent air defense layout working as an integrated IADS: higher MANPAD/AAA density along the FLOT, around urban areas and (random) concentrations of troops. Some strategic targets with a dense layered defense. Some medium/short range threats along the FLOT. Some EWR. Ideally, ability to select several levels of difficulty. In the range, a variety of targets: factories, bridges, field HQs, buildings, railways, concentrations of troops or vehicles, runways, bunkers, harbour, etc... Within or close to the range, red airfields with hot and armed aircraft for QRA (re)spawns.
