I've confirmed that the pre-existing APIs on ed.gov/developers can be hosted in the new API (several can be found at https://autoapi-ed.apps.cloud.gov/swagger-ui/), but they are not great fits.
For now, I'd suggest leaving them out, though we may weigh transitioning them in order to be able to deprecate the inventory.data.gov tool and to get analytics.
I've tried testing existing APIs as they are. They all suffer from the same data complexity issues. We'll follow up further, but my actual suggestion is going to be to organize clean, foundational APIs.
