I think it's pretty obvious that we should include APIs or data that are provided by projects if they aren't included in the data.json from the agency. But I would like to consider what we could provide about ourselves for greater transparency. This leads to some random questions immediately for me:
Facts and data possibly mentioned in blog posts. Obviously, in some cases, this is a no-brainer, but should we also be updating and providing CSV or JSON versions of data in things like this by the numbers post
18F staffing information. Where is balance between public information and privacy? Should we provide a CSV with everybody's emails in them? Official cell phones? Federal pay grades? What about metadata of team sizes and project assignments (some of this could be roughly inferred from Tock too)
18F process. Things like the Dashboard could be a source for weekly-updated data or such. I wonder sometimes if we should be public about other events in projects. Again, there are some things we can't share (like MOUs or IAAs), some things we might share that are nominally interesting (like code deployments), and some things that might be important to us just in the name of greater transparency.
Some things that we may not think of as data apps still might have some interesting data in their usage. For instance, Midas [probably has usage data that's just as interesting as Kickstarter's]. What measures must we take to ensure privacy, even if aggregating data? Would this require permission from the partners we built the product for?
Again, this is by no means comprehensive or final. I just want to think about what kind of 18F data we should share beyond the obvious cases of the data in our applications.
