Discuss alpha vs. beta status #900

We label the project a 'beta' project in some places and don't mention it elsewhere. One option is to consider shifting that to 'alpha' to better capture its nature. If so, we should also make the label more consistent across the web presence.

We're both 👍 with alpha. I'll integrate the next steps into #903, so can close this for now.
